Funeral Home Coorevits was founded in 1947 by Jozef Coorevits. At the time, he mainly arranged funerals in Hoeilaart. It was a small, one-man business, where even the coffins were made by hand. Today, almost 80 years later, Funeral Centre Coorevits has grown from a traditional funeral home into a modern funeral service, supporting families throughout the wider region between Brussels, Leuven and Wavre.
Behind those almost 80 years lies our family history as well. In the 1970s, Jozef’s son Johan Coorevits took over the business and a funeral home was built in Hoeilaart. Following his untimely death in 1983, his wife Greta took over the management of the company. She remained at the head of the business for almost thirty years, assisted during the final twenty years by her son Jan. In 2011, Jan became managing director and continued the family business as the third generation.
The Rosier name also has deep roots in our region. In the late 1940s, Jan Baptist Rosier founded Rosier Funeral Services. His son Marc and Marc’s wife Myriam later expanded the business, with funeral homes in Huldenberg and Overijse. When Marc Rosier began looking for a successor in 2012, Jan Coorevits took over the company. Two family businesses, each with a long history, thus came together.
In 2014, a spacious building on the Brusselsesteenweg in Overijse was acquired and completely renovated. A year later, a new funeral centre opened its doors, bringing everything together under one roof: a ceremony hall, reception room, viewing rooms, welcoming spaces, showroom, printing facilities and offices. It illustrates just how much has changed over the years. In the past, funerals generally followed a traditional pattern, from care of the deceased at home to the service in the local parish church and finally to the cemetery. Today, we help families create a farewell that can be entirely personalised according to their own wishes. Since 2021, we have also been doing so from our funeral centre in Bertem.
But not everything needs to change. Caring for the deceased and their family remains at the heart of everything we do. That was true in 1947, and it remains just as true today.
We cherish this tradition and the experience built up over several generations. It helps us support families through one of the most difficult moments in their lives. That is why we keep as much of the care as possible in our own hands, from the very first contact through to aftercare. With a close-knit team of dedicated staff, we provide every family with personal support while remaining fully independent and unaffiliated with any large funeral group.
The small funeral business that began in Hoeilaart has grown, together with another long-established family business from the region, into the funeral centre we are today. Much has changed in almost 80 years. What has remained unchanged is the personal care with which we say farewell to each person and support their family.
We have put our family name behind that commitment for 80 years.
